Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development
ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project aims to strengthen the protection of biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources in particularly biodiversity-rich natural areas of Armenia through selected investments in Armenia’s PA system and to improve the socio-economic situation of the population in the neighbouring communities. The 6-year-long project is financed by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany through the KfW Development Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Environment of Armenia with WWF Armenia as a consultant of the project.

Key Activities

Currently the project is in inception phase (6-month) to lay the foundations for the project and to prepare the following outputs:

Projection Operational Manual;

 Operational Plan;

 Procurement Plan;

 Selected PAs and villages;

 Environmental and social management framework (ESMF);

 Community engagement planning framework (CEPF);

 Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) plan;

 Communication and knowledge management strategy.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

OUTCOME 1

Biodiversity and selected protected areas are managed effectively considering their multifunctional aspects.

OUTCOME 2

The generation of own revenues is strengthened (e.g., from ecotourism / concessions) for sustainable financing of protected areas.

OUTCOME 3

Support of local development activities in communities neighbouring selected natural conservation areas to reduce pressure on natural resource use.
