CONSERVATION OF THE LEOPARD IN ARMENIA

Launched in 2002, the Leopard Conservation Project aims to protect the endangered Caucasian Leopard. Since its beginning, the project has achieved significant milestones, including the increase in leopard numbers and a birth of an individual in Armenia. Key activities include habitat monitoring, engaging local stakeholders, mitigating human-wildlife conflicts, and enhancing public awareness. Expected outcomes include stabilizing leopard populations, improving protected area management, and fostering community support for biodiversity conservation.

REINTRODUCTION OF THE RED DEER IN ARMENIA

Launched in 2013, the project aims to restore the Caspian Red Deer population in Armenia. Over the years, the project has successfully established a breeding center in Dilijan National Park and reintroduced several Red Deer into the wild. Key efforts include habitat restoration, scientific monitoring, and collaboration with local communities to ensure the protection and preservation of the species.

PROMOTION OF ECOLOGICAL CORRIDORS IN ARMENIA

The ECF project aims to promote ecologically sustainable land use in the habitats for species like the Bezoar goat, Armenian mouflon, Caucasian leopard, etc. by linking protected areas. The project enhances biodiversity, supports rural livelihoods, and mitigates human-wildlife conflict through innovative compensation schemes and protective measures.

LIVING LANDSCAPES FOR MARKET DEVELOPMENT

The Living Landscapes for Market (LILA) is a 7-year project sustaining rural livelihoods in Armenia. The project focuses on economic opportunities, sustainable tourism, and biodiversity conservation. It works closely with community members, providing resources for sustainable practices and supporting the development of eco-friendly products and services. The project strengthens the connection between conservation and economic growth, ensuring the long-term protection of Armenia’s landscapes and biodiversity.

Conservation and Sustainable Management in Lake Sevan Basin

The 5-year-long project aims to strengthen the capacities of Sevan National Park, a site of globally significant biodiversity, by enhancing biodiversity monitoring, patrolling, and promoting eco-friendly, socially responsible tourism. Key Biodiversity Areas (KBA) and Important Bird Areas (IBA) beyond the park’s boundaries will be mapped, and their spatial needs integrated into regional land-use planning.

Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development

The 6-year-long project aims to strengthen the protection of biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources in particularly biodiversity-rich natural areas of Armenia through selected investments in Armenia’s PA system and to improve the socio-economic situation of the population in the neighbouring communities.
