Objective:

Establishment of a National Park in the area will promote further tourism development in line with protection of ecosystems and rich biodiversity contributing to social-economic development of the region. 

Armenia as a part of the Caucasus Ecoregion is ranked among the planet’s 34 most diverse and endangered hotspots and is one of WWF’s Global 200 vulnerable Ecoregions, identified as globally outstanding for biodiversity. It is a habitat for many globally threatened species. The high level of biodiversity is one of the most important features of the region. 

Tatev area as a part of Syunik region is characterized by rich and unique cultural and natural heritage sites. Recently the area became one of the key tourism destinations in Armenia. The world longest aerial cableway was constructed (through the support of the National Competiveness Foundation and Tatev Revival Foundation) over the gorge to Tatev monastery in order to develop tourism on the site.

Project Expected Deliverables:

1.

 Construct, furnish and equip park infrastructure.

2.

 Improvement of adjacent communities socio-economic situation

3.

Ecotourism development in the region 

4.

On the basis of the management plan and associated programmes, assist the park administration with the development and implementation of a three year operational plan.

5.

Design and implement a training programme for NP staff and staff of other cooperation partners based on assessed training needs.

6.

 Elaborate Tatev National Park’s management plan with full participation of MoNP, the support zone communities and other respective authorities which will reflect the regional best practice guidelines for national park management planning.
