The main objective of the project is to create and to improve ecotourism infrastructure and information materials for tourists and visitors of the protected areas in southern Armenia.

Project Expected Deliverables:

4-6 nature-hiking trails are well equipped with necessary infrastructure and successfully operating.

Maps and promotional materials of the newly developed hiking trails for each of the PA are created and made available for the wide public.

The project's webpage with information about the trails, the protected areas, WWF, nature conservation, photographs is designed. 

In order to protect natural ecosystems and to improve human-environment interaction, environmental education and raising of awareness and appreciation are necessary. The proposed project is aimed at creation and improvement of ecotourism infrastructure and information materials for tourists and visitors of the protected areas (PA) in southern Armenia. Particularly, the nature hiking trails, focusing on provision of information on natural heritage and biodiversity of an area, including flora, fauna, cultural monuments and other objects of visitors’ interest.

Each year, volunteers divided into several groups (about 30 persons in each group) will be visiting one of the target PA’s - “Khosrov Forest” State Reserve, Gnishik Protected Landscape, Tatev Planned National Park and Zangezur Biosphere Complex. The project tasks for participants will include various activities, such as mapping trails, installation of signboards, trailblazing, construction of small infrastructure (e.g. vista points, small bridges over streams etc.), cleaning of trails, etc. Each trail will cover the majority of scenic sites of each of the protected areas. In addition, they will also visit other sites in Armenia and will be acquainted with the rich natural and cultural heritage of the country.
